Excellent Replacement StrapAug 26, 2009
I bought this strap at the last minute, a few days prior to a trip to Cozumel. I am so glad that I did. It is sooo much better than the old strap. The wide neoprene band at the back is extremely kind to my long hair, as are the narrower sides (which seem to be made of loosely knit nylon). I have no problem getting the mask and strap off, even when my hair is soaking wet and tangled with salt water.
The fit works well with my mask (Aqualung) and snorkel (Dacor). It also appears to be well constructed. At first glance, I was concerned that the fit would be too loose as the only material that actually provides elasticity is the wide neoprene section of the strap. However, the strap itself is easy to attach, very adjustable, and remained secure. (I will note that I enjoyed very minor currents in Cozumel, and I cannot speak to performance in rougher conditions.)
If I had one cautionary note, I'd only say that because the strap is fabric on each end, it slips more easily out of the snorkel attachment. It doesn't happen at every dive, and it has not been a big problem; but I do have to keep an eye on to make sure it doesn't slip out occasionally. The fact that it slips out more easily is a benefit for storage, since the pieces are easy to separate. This mask is absolutely worth this minor consideration. I wish that I'd bought it a long time ago.
