I have been a lifeguard now for 2 years and this whistle certainly lives up to it's fame. I does take some time to learn the right amount of air needed to blow it, but once that is covered this whistle can be heard all accross our facility. I have had many pull outs as a guard and each time I blow the whistle I can depend on it being loud enough for help to be on its way. Don't get discouraged if you can't get the right tone out of it immediatly, it is not like ordinary whistles. What we tell all the guards here is to say "tit" when you try to blow it, and put your tongue in the mouth piece, then remove it with a quick burst of air. This whistle is the best I've ever had, the fox 40 mini is also a good one, as that was my first whistle. The mini is easier to blow and at least mine is a little higher pitch.

This is the one to have. It's loud enough & never breaks. Buy a half dozen if you ref sports. You'll thank me.

The red whistles that we received work great at the pool. I was disappointed that you would not send blue whistles to New Zealand.

This is the loudest whistle you will ever own! The harder you blow the louder it gets. The construction of this whistle is solid and compact with no pea inside to jam. I have the red one so that I can see it if I drop it in the forest. As a hiker I want the brightest, loudest whistle I can get my hands on and this one fits the bill. A great survival whistle, the fox 40 will not disappoint!
